Knockin' on Heaven's Door
I chose Knockin on Heaven's Door because, to me, it is the most exemplary piece of Dylan's ability to affect emotion. The lyrics resemble that of blues, simple and repetitive, the singing that of soul, swung notes and treble timbre, and the musicianship is purely folk. The songs entire tone is haunting, and undeniable beautiful.
Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore.
That long black cloud is comin' down
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.
The song is relatable to each person's darkest hour. I have never heard a song more perfectly capture that low where you are thinking so analytically, and your hardships have become so harshly manifest, that you feel your knocking on heavens door. I'm talking in circles, but this song is just so beautiful!
